Triumph Bonneville description

1972 Triumph  Bonneville 650 originally that I have converted to a cafe racer/ flat track design.

The original owner put it in storage when he went to Vietnam. The next owner bought it in the 90s and stored it the whole time until I purchased it. I have owned the bike for 7 years. It has roughly 9,000 original miles. I have the original speedometer but had to replace it with a new one. Since I have owned the bike, I have added a Boyer electronic ignition, a Sparx electronic rectifier, replaced the original Amals with new Kehien carburetors, a new Wassel stater, new Kevlar clutch, new Speedo gear drive and cable, and changed tires a few years back which still have good tread. The original gas tank has been powder coated and new petcocks have been added. I have built several parts to the bike too. They include: stainless steel exhaust, stainless steel taillight bracket with LED strip lights, built the entire seat w/ original after market Triumph cover, stainless steel battery tray, stainless steel primary vent, and stainless steel wiring tray hidden under the seat to keep a clean look. I have replaced the original primary bolts with stainless allen head button cap bolts. Most bolts used or replaced have been replaced with stainless steel. It is a non matching numbers bike. I had to title it under a new different frame because we couldn't track the title from the owner that had it when he went to Vietnam.

Runs and sounds good. As many older motorcycles, it has normal leaks. There are few scuffs and scratches on the frame and rear wheel.

Watch: 2011 Speed Triple Dyno run

Tue, 05 Apr 2011

With the full factory fitted arrow system and map fitted it was time to give the Speed a run on a Dyno to see where the power is at. Over two runs the best results were as follows; Power at the crank : 130bhp & 75 ft.lbs torque Power at the gearbox : 124bhp & 72 ft.lbs torque Power at the wheel : 119bhp & 69 ft.lbs torque The bike has covered 4200 miles and is due its first proper service at 6000 so you would expect to see a reduction in power. Triumph claim on a brand new bike the Speed Triple at best puts out 135bhp and 82 ft.lbs torque at the crank with the cans fitted, effectively mine has lost 5bhp and 7ft.lbs of torque.

Single sided chain adjustment

Wed, 14 Apr 2010

We don’t get the manuals with our long term bikes and I didn’t want swallow my pride and ask triumph how to adjust the chain on the Speed Triple. For the life of me I couldn’t figure it out. The single side swing arm with centrally mounted disk is a work of art but how the hell you are supposed to adjust the thing?

Sulfur Yellow Triumph Daytona 675 Highlights New 2012 Colors

Tue, 15 May 2012

Triumph announced a number of new paint schemes for several of its models. While the new options are for the most part merely cosmetic, the lone exception is the new sulfur yellow 2012 Triumph Daytona 675. We’re not quite sure it’s good marketing for a color scheme that reminds you of the smell of rotten eggs, but the sulfur yellow Daytona 675 also sports a number of upgrades.
