The new model looked very much like the classic T500, once sensationally fast and well-built machine, but in the mid-seventies already old-fashioned and smoky two-stroker. Its days were outnumbered. Suzuki made a good effort trying to modernize the once very popular model by releasing the GT500 that had a bigger tank, electronic ignition and a front disk brake. Confusingly, the T500 was renamed to GT500 already in 1971 in Japan, but the rest of the world didn't even know about it. The GT500 wore a single front hydraulic disk brake, identical to that which had been fitted to the GT380 and GT550. The forks were similar as well having 35mm stanchions and identical triple clamps to the GT range. The instruments were also identical to those found on the GT range. Another example of parts rationalization was the use of the GT750 fuel tank on the GT500. A plastic insert replaces the unnecessary radiator access flap on the front of the tank. The larger tank gave welcome extra range to the 500 but didn't necessary make the machine more beautiful (a matter of an opinion). A new seat accompanied the change of tank. Kevin Schwantz Once Again Wearing RS Taichi
Mon, 07 Apr 2014It’s official – Kevin Schwantz will return to his early years of wearing RS Taichi. While Schwantz wore RS Taichi gear during several of his memorable seasons in the 500cc class, his partnership and success with Taichi apparel all started with his victory at the 1988 Daytona 200. And now that Schwantz and the Circuit of the Americas have settled their differences, the 1993 world champ took to the track in RS Taichi leathers again for the first time recently at the Circuit of The Americas media day, as newly appointed motorcycle ambassador for the circuit.
Seeley On Form On First Night Of North West 200
Fri, 16 May 2014Alastair Seeley took a double in the Ballymoney Borough council Supersport and Pirtek Superstock events at the start of racing at the Vauxhall International North West 200 this evening, what many “real” road racers refer to as the precursor to the Isle Of Man TT. In the Supersport race, the ‘Wee Wizard’ survived being caught up in a first lap crash at York hairpin that left him languishing in 16th to come through and win the opening race of the night on his Mar-Train Yamaha R6. Lee Johnston was the rider who went down in the first lap crash, causing Seeley to take evasive action to avoid going down himself.
MotoGP Approves “Factory 2″ Rules
Tue, 18 Mar 2014We’re just days away from the start of the 2014 MotoGP season and one would think it’s a little late for series organizers to make any significant rule changes. At least, one would think that if one were unfamiliar with the political back-and-forths going on between the major manufacturers and MotoGP promoter Dorna. But with the season-opening Qatar round about to begin, the Grand Prix Commission approved new rules establishing a compromise between the new Factory and Open options.
