1982 YAMAHA XJ 550 / XJ550 ... TOURING COMFORT & ECONOMY ... BEST OF BOTH

The 1982 Yamaha XJ550 Maxim is designed to bring you the best of both worlds. The comfort to take this disc brake & sporty mag wheel equipped, 4 cylinder wild cat across the Country if that's what you're in the mood for, or just the economical savings that a motorcycle can provide for riding to work and back every day, comfortably! There are 20 photos here, taken from just about every imaginable angle in August 2013. I bought the bike last August but never even registered it in order to ride it ... since I can't get my 5' tall wife to ride with me. It's a battle that I fought for a year, even had the bike insured. Now I'm done. I never bought this bike to enjoy without the wife, so here it is on eBay. More details below the photos ...

Item Details: To my knowledge there's absolutely northing wrong with this Maxim 550. Last time that it was taken out it ran perfectly fine. Don't have compression values but there was no dark smoke at all from the exhaust. The guy that I bought the bike from owned it for several years and took very good care of it. It was bought after a tune-up which included new floats and tuning the carbs. He told me that his brother was the original purchaser so the bike was always in one family. Lights, ignition, gears, everything works. If you look at the last photo you'll see a tiny amount of oil that leaked out during the past few months of sitting in the garage. Little to nothing as you can see. But ...

... I say nothing wrong with it to the best of my knowledge because I can't get it started now. The battery was dead as a door nail. Since I don't have a charger I went ahead and bought a brand new battery for it about 6 weeks ago. Tried several times to start the bike ... which tries to crank over just beautifully ... but I must be doing something wrong with the choke & throttle. Had gasoline leaking out of the overflow so I know that I'm doing something wrong ... just don't know what. Now I'm really reluctant to keep on trying to start it because I don't want to burn out the brand new battery that I just bought. You're welcome to try and start it while you're looking at the bike, but once you buy it here on eBay it's a done deal.

Back rest, turn signals, touring pegs, passenger pegs, mirrors on both sides, are all included. The old battery too if you want it. One of the photos with the seat has an arrow pointing at a small rip. It's just an inch or two, nothing major. eBay has plenty of parts for this bike available, including seats. Not sure how to "lock in" the rear of the seat either. I'm selling this bike for less than what I purchased it for!

Milan Show: Moto2 tried and tested

Tue, 02 Nov 2010

The insanity of Moto2 doesn't seem like the right home for the elegance of the Rizoma brand. But the Rizoma ProGuard system has helped secure the levers of Toni Elias on his road to championship success in the inaugural Moto2 season. The example above was on an attractive Rizoma-enhanced BMW S1000RR, but the lever guards are not limited to sports bikes, they were also visible on Yamaha's FZ8.  The patented design can tilt up to 10 degrees providing full lever coverage and can be added by simply replacing the bike's existing bar-ends.

Yamaha Champions Riding School Sold Out June 9 & 10

Tue, 03 Jun 2014

It took more than a year for the Yamaha Champions Riding School to sell out at its former location of Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. Since its return at New Jersey Motorsports Park, the school has sold out in less than a half of season. There are any number of reasons this could be the case.
