Triumph Other description

Selling for a friend.  1947 Highly Modified Triumph Twin Speed with long stroke engine.  This bike and the owner are legends!  Featured in the Steve McQueen Movie "ON ANY SUNDAY" (1971).  Original owner and rider (can be seen in the movie).  Hawkeye Hillbilly built, rode and still owns the bike.  It's in excellent show condition.  Also to go with the bike are trophies and the racing vest worn in the movie.  Hawkeye Hillbilly is a featured rider in the movie, who climbed the famous "Widowmaker Hill", just outside of Salt Lake City.  Until this movie, the top of the hill had never been conquered!  Hawkeye made it to within fifty feet of the top in this movie!  Hawkeye and his bike have won several other competitions including the 1974 Canadian National Championships.  A few things about the bike include:  very rare all alloy long stroke engine, dual carbs with splay port heads (experimental for the 650 Bonneville), one of 300 imported to the U.S. for the Class C dirt track.  This bike is sought after by the AMA Museum, National Motor Cycle Museum and others. The bike was recently featured in the Des Moines Concours d'Elegance!  The bike is appraised at $30,000 to $50,000.  Bike is sold on a bill of sale.

My personal suggestion to the buyer is to come see the bike and have a beer with 72 year old Hawkeye Hillbilly (don't offer him anything but Miller Lite!).  He's quite a character and has some biker stories that'll curl your toes!  Hawk says he will work with the buyer in having the bike professionally crated and shipped.  Will need a substantial down payment from winning bidder with full cash, bank money order, or similar, prior to shipping.  Serious bidders contact me for any questions and I can have Hawkeye give you a call.  Can also get additional pictures if needed.

Happy Bidding!

Freedom Friday Photo Contest

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

Freedom Friday is a call-to-action on the AMA’s Facebook page each Friday to alert motorcyclists about issues posing threats to motorcycling freedoms. Riders can partake in a weekly contest related to these issues and win prizes. Each week’s Freedom Friday photo contest asks AMA members to send a photo of themselves, preferably with their bike, near a symbol of the current topic. The issue that kicks off today is access discrimination, which can be illustrated with a photo of a “No Motorcycles Allowed” sign, “Wilderness” sign or anything related to freedom to illustrate their concern as a motorcyclist.

How well does a Triumph Tiger 800 crash?

Mon, 08 Nov 2010

I've just come back to the hotel after our first day riding the Tiger 800 with the other Brit journos. One of the journos (who shall remain nameless, but alas, it wasn't me) crashed at low speed. Pictured here is his bike.
