Husqvarna Desert Master description

1972 Husqvarna 450cc Desert Master

Complete, recent restoration by the famous Bill West of Central California. This bike has only been shown once and received Best of Show.

This bike is very rare because it was a "big disappointment". Malcolm Smith hated it. Most were shipped back to Sweden. According to Kelly Owen, a famous motorcycle collector, "Unfortunately, what looks good on paper doesn’t always work; the Desert Master 450 was proof of this.  With a lack of power and suspect handling along with a high price, the bike did not sell as well as hoped.  As a result, only a few were made and what proved back then to be a bike of no interest, today is a bike which is highly sought after and sells for a premium."

Both models are powered by 900cc parallel Twin engines derived from BMW’s F800 engine, but the R version will have higher-spec suspension and brakes as well as various carbon fiber bits.
