BMW R-Series description

This beautiful example of German engineering is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, and has been reverently maintained throughout its life. It was originally purchased by a retired U.S. Air Force pilot from Louisiana, who owned and maintained it from 1968 through 2012. The second owner was an Austrian airline pilot living in Ocala, Florida. His job took him back to Europe in 2014, which is when I purchased this amazing machine. While I don’t know if the original owner kept the bike garaged, I do know that the second owner and I have. Consistent with other R-Series motorcycles from this era, this R60/2 is remarkably reliable, and has only required pre-riding season oil changes and gas since I’ve been lucky enough to own her.

In addition to the “bread loaf” passenger seat pictured, I also have the original small luggage rack, which mounts to the rear fender, as well as a second sprung Denfeld passenger seat, which mounts to the luggage rack.

Other accessories include the OEM Hella turn signals, grips, spark plugs, and replacement bulbs.

I upgraded the 6 volt incandescent tail light with a (much brighter) 6v LED tail light from Vech at Bench Mark Works. Of course I still have the original tail lamp assembly if you prefer to revert back to it.

The bike was repainted at some point by the original owner. Since then it has received a handful of minor chips scratches as you can see in the photos.

As long as you use the proper starting procedure, this bike will consistently fire on the first kick, even in cold temperatures.

This R60/2 is a tremendous pleasure to ride, and if I weren’t moving out of the country, she’d stay with me as long as she let me.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Happy bidding!

WSBK 2013: Monza Race Report

Mon, 13 May 2013

Eugene Laverty and Marco Melandri split a pair of victories at Monza but the most biggest news from the World Superbike weekend was a strange series of appeals after Race Two that saw Tom Sykes finish third, relegated to fourth and then reinstated on the final step of the podium. The unusual mix-up occurred after Sykes, sitting in third place, ran off track and into the run off area on Turn 5 on his final lap. The Kawasaki rider returned to the track again in third place where he finished ahead of Aprilia‘s Sylvain Guintoli.

Thirty-two years after his death, Steve McQueen still reigns as the coolest movie star to ever ride a motorcycle. This 1970 Husqvarna 400 Cross owned and ridden by Steve McQueen will be up for auction on January 10th, at Bally’s Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, by Bonhams. The motorcycle comes with an exhaustive quantity of documents supporting its provenance and authenticity.
